164 FXUS64 KOUN 132236 AFDOUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Norman OK 536 PM CDT Sat Jul 13 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Sunday) Issued at 203 PM CDT Sat Jul 13 2024 Less of a chance (<10%) for isolated showers/storms this afternoon compared to the last few days. Quiet tonight with lows in the low to mid 70s. Upper ridge will continue to build and influence the region. Thermal ridge will also build further east Sunday. This will lead to hotter temperatures Sunday with highs in the mid 90s to triple digits. Even hotter heat index values are expected, especially in parts of northern and central OK where values of 105 to 107 are possible. With this in mind, have issued a heat advisory for Sunday afternoon in these areas. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through next Friday) Issued at 203 PM CDT Sat Jul 13 2024 The hot temperatures will continue through at least Tuesday as the upper ridge and thermal ridge continue over the area. Highs will be in the 90s/100s with triple digit heat index values expected. Heat advisories will likely be needed for parts of the area on Monday and Tuesday as well. Towards the middle of next week, models show the pattern shifting with the upper ridge building over the western U.S. and more like NW flow developing over the region. With the pattern shift, a cool front is expected to move across the region Wednesday bringing a break to the heat. Models show the NW flow continuing into next weekend which should maintain around average temperatures into next weekend. In addition to the cooler temperatures, the pattern shift will bring a chance for showers/storms for at least the latter half of next week. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 535 PM CDT Sat Jul 13 2024 VFR ceilings with some mid and high clouds. Winds will shift to the S and SE this evening then shift to the SW and S Sunday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
