337 FXUS64 KLZK 191936 AFDLZK Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Little Rock AR 236 PM CDT Fri Jul 19 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Sunday) Issued at 235 PM CDT Fri Jul 19 2024 A nearly static upper level pattern will persist during the short term, with a ridge over the western US, and a broad trof over the midsection of the country. A quasi-stationary front across TX and LA will slowly drift northward thru the period and may reach the southernmost portions of the forecast area by the end of the period. A shortwave moving thru the broad trof will bring some rain chances back to the state on Sunday, primarily to the western portions of the state. The front mentioned above will bring some low chances for rain to the southernmost portions of the forecast area as well. Temperatures should remain somewhat below average for the remainder of the short term...which is certainly welcome at this time of year. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday Night through next Friday) Issued at 235 PM CDT Fri Jul 19 2024 The long term period will be characterized by near to below normal temperatures along with persistent rain chances across the state. Aloft, ridging will expand and remain dominant across the western US. Mid-level troughing will extend toward the state from the Great Lakes which will provide a persistent series of disturbances over the area as the flow transitions from NW to SW over the region. At the sfc, a stalled front will be in the vicinity and will act as the focus for daily precip chances through the period. At this time, the heaviest rainfall amounts are expected to be across S/SE parts of the state. Given the increase in cloud cover and moisture across the area along with NW flow aloft, daytime highs in the 80s F appear more likely than highs in the 90s F through the period. Similarly, overnight lows are expected to dip down into the 60s F across much of the area through the period. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
