988 FXUS64 KHUN 101457 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 957 AM CDT Wed Jul 10 2024 ...New NEAR TERM... .NEAR TERM... (Rest of Today) Issued at 954 AM CDT Wed Jul 10 2024 Beryl, in its wake, has brought a "cooler" and drier air mass across the region today. Advection of this air mass from the northwest should allow for dewpoints to drop into the 60s today, with highs in the upper-80s in the TN Valley. Skies should begin to clear out by the afternoon and allow for more sunshine. Add in a gentle breeze from the northwest and it will make for a fantastic July afternoon. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Saturday) Issued at 427 AM CDT Wed Jul 10 2024 Lows should be a bit lower tonight, dropping into the mid to upper 60s. Expect some patchy fog early in the day on Thursday. It should be even warmer on Friday, with highs reaching the lower to mid 90s. The ridging aloft only intensifies into the remainder of the weekend. A weakening front tries to approach the area, but the strengthening upper ridge keeps it to our northwest through Saturday afternoon. 925 mb temperatures continue to increase in guidance during this period. Highs in the mid to upper 90s look possible by Saturday. However, some cloud cover and isolated/scattered cloud cover and thunderstorms could keep us from hitting the century mark. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday night through Tuesday) Issued at 427 AM CDT Wed Jul 10 2024 By late Saturday night into Sunday, a weak front may be close enough to produce a bit more cloud cover and additional isolated to scattered showers/thunderstorms. Again this might keep us from hitting the century mark on Sunday. It will be very hot, but with afternoon dewpoints between 60-67 degrees expected, heat index values will be hard pressed to climb above 102 degrees. As the fairly dry front shifts just southeast of the area and weakens further, the tail end of the front extends into the northeastern Gulf coastal area. However, the strength of the upper ridge should allow temperatures to climb into the mid to upper 90s again, but dewpoints should drop into the lower to mid 60s again in the afternoon. This should keep heat index values below 104 degrees. As the tail end of that front drifts northward towards northern Alabama early next week, low level moisture increases again. This could bring our heat index values to or near 105 degrees in the afternoon. This trend looks to continue into the middle part of next week before some relief in the form of rainfall may be on the way. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 610 AM CDT Wed Jul 10 2024 Not much change in forecast thinking on TAFs. Expect VFR conditions at KMSL the remainder of the day. KHSV will continue to keep MVFR CIGS though through the day. Winds will shift more to the northwest and remain between 5 and 10 knots with some gusts to around 16 knots at times. VFR and clearing skies will return early this evening to KHSV. Some fog may be possible towards the end of the TAF period at both terminals, but that left out for now. && .HUN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AL...None.
