791 FXUS66 KEKA 181111 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 411 AM PDT Thu Jul 18 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Quiet, dry, and climatologically normal weather is forecast to continue through the work week. Interior temperatures creep back up into the triple digits this weekend. There is a slight chance for thunderstorms Saturday in Trinity county. && .DISCUSSION...seasonably normal temperatures continue today and Friday as troughing persists aloft. The marine layer has compressed again overnight, relegating low cloud toward the immediate coast and bringing patchy fog to the coastal plain. Coastal stratus continues for the foreseeable future, with a chance of brief clearing each afternoon before the stratus reforms each night. Ridging is forecast to build aloft this weekend, potentially bringing a return of triple-digit temperatures across the interior, with above normal afternoon temperatures persisting into early next week. This feature may be accompanied by another push of monsoonal moisture from the SE and a shortwave trough. Moisture content looks lower than the monsoonal push last week, and model soundings across the interior show a relatively capped environment...however lapse rates aloft are sufficient for convection, should any of these mid- level parcels get through the cap. So have opted to leave thunderstorms in for Trinity county...however while there is potential for convection, confidence is low on whether storms will develop or not, as well as precisely where and/or when. && .AVIATION...High pressure continues building into the area. The marine layer is expected to be less deep this morning, with IFR to LIFR conditions forecast to persist into at least mid morning at the coastal terminals. Scattering to clearing conditions are expected by this afternoon with IFR to LIFR conditions returning mid to late this evening. VFR conditions are anticipated for Ukiah with gusty northerly winds this afternoon. Gusts could be to 20 knots. && .MARINE...Northerly winds have begun to pick back up through the marine zones. In the southern outer zone, small craft conditions have already started as winds increase and cause steeper seas. These conditions will only increase through the rest of the week and into the weekend spreading into the northern zones. South of Cape Mendocino, northerly gusts from 25 to 30 knot are expected with steep seas from 6 to 7 feet. && .EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA... None. NORTHWEST CALIFORNIA COASTAL WATERS...
