Main concern will be thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon and
early evening. Guidance suggests another pretty early start to
convection (around 20Z), and at least scattered coverage. That`s
enough to have TEMPO VRB winds gusting to 35-40 kts and -TSRA in
the forecast...starting at KBJC and KAPA by/shortly before 20Z,
and 21Z at KDEN. Most storms should be out of the area again
before 00Z, with only a small chance thereafter. Outside of the
storms, fairly normal diurnal wind patterns and VFR conditions
will prevail.

VFR conditions are expected at all three TAF sites, KCOS, KPUB, and
KALS, for the rest tonight and through the late morning hours of
tomorrow, before increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms
arrive at all three stations after 19Z tomorrow afternoon. Scattered
mid and upper-level cloud cover is expected over the region through
most of the period, and will increase tomorrow afternoon with the
arrival of afternoon thunderstorm chances. All three stations will
have chances for storms to move over station, though confidence was
too low to include any tempo groups with TS on station at this
time. After 04Z Wednesday night, easterly and southeasterly
winds at KPUB and KCOS will bring chances for MVFR ceilings
through the overnight hours, and into the next TAF period
Thursday morning.

.AVIATION...KSLC...VFR conditions will persist for the KSLC terminal
through the period. Skies will be mostly clear with intermittent
cumulus. Afternoon convective potential is very low (5%). Winds will
be diurnally drive with a northerly lake breeze transitioning to a
southerly drainage breeze after sunset.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions will persist
across the airspace throughout the period. Afternoon convection will
mainly be confined to central and southern Utah. Weak instability
and modest moisture profiles will limit the strength of storms, but
gusty outflow 30-45 kts will be possible near convective activity.
Otherwise, winds will be light and variable with convection
diminishing this evening.

Showers and thunderstorms should diminish through 08Z. TAF
sites will generally remain VFR unless directly impacted by
storms, which would bring them to MVFR conditions. Skies are
more clear over KCOD/KWRL with northerly flow. Smoke is
increasing in the area reducing broad visibilities, but not yet
impacting visibility at the terminals. A couple of forecast
models are indicating an area of light showers early Wednesday
morning over northwest WY, possibly bringing some rain to KCOD
around sunrise.
The high pressure axis shifts slightly eastward on Wednesday which
should bring showers and thunderstorms to areas along and east of
the divide. SW WY should remain mostly dry, though can`t rule out an
isolated storm or two, but not confident enough to include in
the TAFs. WNW winds will continue over SW WY, while east of the
divide will see NE to E winds Wed afternoon, with stronger ENE
winds pushing southwestward into KRKS Wed evening. Most
convection on Wednesday should end shortly after sunset.

Light easterly winds overnight will help pull in more moisture
ahead of Wednesday. This will lead to a slight chance for IFR
CIGs at KSNY and KAIA between about 11z and 15z. The probability
is too low to add as a prevailing group, but hinted at the
possibility with FEW clouds below 1000 ft.
Showers and thunderstorms will develop quickly Wednesday afternoon
around 19z, and continue to around 02 to 03z. All terminals will
have the potential to see nearby lightning, gusty winds, and brief
MVFR to IFR VIS in locally heavy rainfall, but confidence is too low
to go beyond VCTS at this time.

VFR conditions prevail across western and north central through
a majority of the period. Guidance continues to hint at stratus
developing around sunrise with the latest HREF showing a 20 to
40% chance for visibilities dropping below 6SM. Given the
degree of uncertainty, will cover with a TEMPO group for 6SM BR
between 10Z and 13Z for both sites. Will rely heavily on
satellite trends for later TAFs and amendments. Otherwise, mid-
level clouds will increase this afternoon with southeasterly
winds at 10kts or less.

speeds up to 11kts with a few higher gusts. Convection may be
near/over the terminal after 20z, as a few weather systems move
through from the northwest. Timing and limited coverage prevent
a thunderstorm mention in the taf forecast at this time.
KMCK...VFR conditions are expected through the period. A light
and variable wind at taf issuance will continue through early
Wednesday morning before establishing an easterly component at
speeds up to 11kts with a few higher gusts. Convection may be
near/over the terminal for a few hours around 23z. Timing,

Decaying thunderstorms near the DDC terminal will quickly allow
conditions to improve in the first hour of this TAF, ans TS
ends altogether but patchy areas of -RA continue late as 11z. In
the meantime westerly gusts to 30 knots are still possible as
the rain comes down evaporatively cooling the layers. The
balance of the day will be VFR conditions as the nest chance for
precipitation will be late evening of the 17th, as a marginal
risk for severe weather over eastern Colorado allows storms to
roll into the western counties (to far west to impact GCK or LBL
with severe winds).

Ongoing rain showers persist across much of the panhandles early
this morning with conditions remaining VFR. These rain showers will
diminish and cease within the next few hours leaving fair weather
conditions through to the afternoon hours. By the afternoon to
evening hours rain showers and thunderstorms will redevelop and
impact the panhandles. The most likely areas to be impacted is
the western and northern panhandles with all TAF sites having at
least a small chance of being directly impacted. The odds of rain
showers and thunderstorms on station is highest at KDHT and lower
for KAMA and KGUY. Even if the stations are directly hit
conditions should remain VFR with possible dip down to MVFR.

An outflow boundary bringing a northeasterly to easterly wind
shift across the eastern plains is also progressing westward to
the central mountain chain. An east canyon squeezing through the
gaps of the mountains into KSAF and KABQ is expected to commence
b/w 06Z and 07Z. Current thinking is peak gusts will not supersede
35kts at KABQ but could reach close for a few obs. This boundary
is evident on KABX radar and has past by K0E0 (Moriarty). Shower
and isolated thunderstorm activity will wane overnight into
Wednesday morning. The additional moisture behind the
aforementioned boundary will allow for a significant uptick in
thunderstorm activity across mostly central and eastern NM
Wednesday afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms will favor
initiation over the central mountain chain before tracking south-
southeastward over the adjacent highlands late afternoon. Outflow
boundary collisions will bring thunderstorm activity further into
valley locations like KABQ and further out over the eastern plains
like KTCC. Localized IFR/MVFR impacts can be expected from any
passing storm and TEMPOs are included for various terminals. KFMN
and KROW are the least likely terminals to experience a direct
impact from convective activity.
