Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW Idaho and SE Oregon

FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FRIDAY EVENING

.DISCUSSION...Red Flag criteria may be reached Friday
evening in the Western Twin Falls BLM and Idaho Southern
Highlands as west/northwest winds increase to 15 to 20
mph with gusts 25 to 30 mph, and humidity dips to 10
to 15 percent. A better likelihood of reaching Red Flag
criteria is indicated in the same areas Saturday evening
when northwest gusts reach 30 mph with humidity lowering
to between 7 and 13 percent.

Further warming and drying will continue into next week
as a ridge of high pressure aloft over the eastern Pacific
gradually moves inland. Hottest days look like Wednesday
and Thursday when all-time record high temperatures will
be approached. With little change in moisture content,
relative humidity will dip to single digits on those
days, but winds should stay light. Skies will stay
clear through at least Thursday morning but after that
monsoon moisture will begin to increase in eastern Oregon
on southwesterly flow aloft as the upper ridge shifts
eastward across the Great Basin. By Friday high-based
thunderstorms will become a concern while temperatures
cool only slightly.
