Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
822 PM MDT Sat Jul 6 2024

.DISCUSSION...Today was 5-10 degrees above normal in most areas.
The hottest temps were in SE Oregon where Burns tied their
record high for the day at 102 degrees. Ontario was also 102,
and the hottest official observation was 103 at Rome. The
forecast for Sunday is for most locations to be a few degrees
cooler than today, but it will still be hot. Monday will see
about a 5 degree increase from Sunday, and then we should gain
another 5 degrees Tuesday. The Excessive Heat Watch will remain
in place for now. No changes are needed this evening.

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday night...Breezy northwest
winds will continue through this evening as a system passes by
to the northeast in Montana. Winds should subside late this
evening as the upper level ridge off the coast begins to move
inland. As it moves inland, temperatures aloft warm
substantially by Monday into Tuesday, with the hottest
temperatures of the year so far.

LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday...Multi-day 100+ high
temperatures are forecast throughout the week with the strong
upper ridge dominating across the region. Near record highs
possible from Tuesday through Thursday. An Excessive Heat Watch
remains in effect for all of southeast Oregon and southwest
Idaho. Some relief in the mornings as lows are generally 35-40
degrees less than afternoon highs, thanks to the very dry
conditions. Drier air prevails, although models continue to hint
at some increasing high- level moisture later in the week.
There is some indication for showers/storms next Saturday
evening, but the setup is very marginal and could easily
disappear in following forecasts.
