793 FXUS64 KSJT 091929 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 229 PM CDT Tue Jul 9 2024 ...New LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 156 PM CDT Tue Jul 9 2024 A developed cumulus field extended from Robert Lee to Cross Plains at 2 PM CDT. Isolated thunderstorms, if they develop, will end by late this afternoon. For Wednesday, with heating, isolated thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, mainly along and west of Sterling City to Sweetwater to Roby line. However any activity should be brief, if it occurs. The main story will shift the heat, with highs in the mid and upper 90s, possibly 100 degrees in the Concho Valley. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Tuesday) Issued at 228 PM CDT Tue Jul 9 2024 Not that much day-to-day change is expected with our weather through the end of this week into the first part of next week, with seasonably hot temperatures. An upper high is forecast to be over eastern Nevada Thursday, and gradually shift east over Colorado during the weekend. Another high is progged to be over the western Atlantic, with a westward extension over the Gulf Coast. There are some differences with the depiction among the global models, but overall a shear axis will be over our area. With adequate moisture and a relative weakness in the heights aloft, parts of our area will have a possibility for isolated or widely scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon hours, Friday through Sunday. At this point, limited confidence precludes a specific mention in the forecast other than Saturday afternoon. Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies each day, with perhaps a little more cloud cover Friday and Saturday. Afternoon highs Thursday, Friday and Sunday will be in the mid to upper 90s, with the warmest readings (close to 100 degrees) in the Concho Valley and Big Country. Depending on the extent of cloud cover Saturday, highs may be a few degrees lower. With some strengthening of the 850mb thermal ridge Monday and Tuesday, have increased highs a few degrees. This would result in more locations in our central and northern counties reaching the triple digits for highs. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1200 PM CDT Tue Jul 9 2024 An isolated afternoon thunderstorm possible across the terminals this afternoon, but will only include VCTS at KJCT until 20Z... as remnants of morning thunderstorms move southeast. Storm coverage elsewhere will be too low to include in terminals. Winds will be light and variable. VFR outside of thunderstorms. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
