Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Nashville TN
1153 AM CDT Fri Jul 12 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(Rest of today through Saturday)
Issued at 1103 AM CDT Fri Jul 12 2024

It`s been a quiet morning with some scattered clouds developing
across the area. There could be a stray shower that develops later
this afternoon as a shortwave pushes our way from Missouri, but
activity would be short-lived and extremely isolated. We`re on
track to see temperatures rise into the mid to low 90s this
afternoon. Saturday will be dry with similar afternoon
temperatures. A bit more cloud cover may keep conditions a couple
degrees cooler across areas north of I-40.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday Night through next Friday)
Issued at 1103 AM CDT Fri Jul 12 2024

Temperatures will continue to warm slightly Sunday through
Tuesday. Upper 90s look likely west of the Cumberland Plateau...a
few spots could flirt with 100 each of those afternoons, but
exceeding 100 degrees probably won`t happen for most. We continue
to dial back temperatures from the triple digits NBM is
suggesting. However, it will still be quite hot. The heat index
is expected to climb above 100 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
afternoons in response to increasing surface moisture. The highest
heat indices are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, when we could
reach the 105 degree mark west of the Plateau. As moisture
increases Wednesday, temperatures should start to back off to the
mid 90s. We could see some scattered showers and storms develop
that afternoon. While it will still be very humid, temperatures
will cool quite a bit Thursday and Friday thanks to an approaching
wave of showers and storms ahead of a slow moving cold front. All
of Middle TN may have a decent chance of seeing some rain after
Wednesday next week. Areas south of I-40, where drought conditions
have rapidly developed would obviously benefit the most.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 619 AM CDT Fri Jul 12 2024

returning for all terminals. Fog will be possible again late
tonight at CKV and potentially SRB. Winds will be out of the NW/N
for the taf period generally around 5 kts or less.
