Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Little Rock AR
1204 AM CDT Thu Jul 11 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Friday)
Issued at 235 PM CDT Wed Jul 10 2024

A broad upper level trof across the midsection of the country will
gradually move east during the short term as an upper level ridge
starts to build in from the west.

At the surface, surface high pressure will move to the southeast,
and allow a return flow to develop by the end of the period.
Dewpoints thru the term will still remain below typical values for
July, with 60`s prevailing in most areas.

Temperatures tomorrow will be a bit warmer than today, and with the
ridge beginning to build in, the highs on Friday will make it back
up into the mid 90`s in most areas, aside from the higher elevations.

A cold front is expected to stall out across southern MO on Friday,
and this may allow a few showers and thunderstorms to drift into
northern AR during the afternoon hours.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday Night through next Wednesday)
Issued at 235 PM CDT Wed Jul 10 2024

No value added changes will be forth coming this afternoon and
guidance remains in good agreement through the forecast cycle.
Period initiates with a sprawling upper level ridge over the western
CONUS and weak troughing over the Ohio Valley that will be lifting
off to the Northeast.

The upper ridge will be building over the region through the period
and be the dominant weather feature. This pattern will bring summer
like conditions back to the region featuring hot and humid
conditions during the day with warm and muggy conditions at night.
Diurnally driven convection can never be ruled out in this type of
pattern but in overall, low end pops seem warranted except in a few
places, primarily over the south on Sunday.

High temperatures are expected to top out in the upper 80s in the
higher elevations to the the upper 90s elsewhere with heat indices
starting to flirt with advisory criteria over the weekend. Lows will
likely not drop out of the 70s except across the higher elevations.
