Strong High pressure aloft will persist through most of next week, bringing an extended period of hot and dry conditions across the interior. High temperatures between 100 and 110 degrees will be common across the warmest valleys, lower mountains, and deserts through at least Thursday. Minimum humidities will generally fall into the 8 to 20 percent range each day across the interior. The heat wave will bring an extended period of high mixing heights (10,000 to 15,000 feet) and high risk for plume dominated fire behavior across interior areas. Northwest wind gusts of 20 to 35 mph will be common tonight and Sunday night over the western Santa Ynez range and adjacent foothills as well as the I-5 corridor. South to southwest winds will increase over the mountains and interior this afternoon, becoming slightly stronger Sunday and Monday afternoon, Onshore wind gusts of 25 to 40 mph will be common each afternoon and evening during this period, with isolated gusts as high as 45 mph in the Antelope Valley foothills. This period in particular is the greatest concern for rapid grass fire growth with continued hot and dry conditions on top of the increasing winds. By Tuesday and Wednesday, an influx of mid level monsoonal moisture will bring a 5-15 percent chance of elevated thunderstorms across the mountains of LA/Ventura counties and Antelope Valley (especially eastern portions). If any thunderstorms were to develop, the main risks would be isolated dry lightning strikes and gusty outflow winds.
