OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
910 PM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

High pressure of 30.1 inches continues to push east and exit the
Upper Great Lakes Region. Southeast winds are expected following
the departure of the high late this afternoon and into tonight.

These southeast winds will increase in time overnight into
Thursday, as low pressure around 29.7 inches develops over the
northern Great Plains, and approaches Lake Michigan. Gusts are
expected to remain below gale force during this period but may
approach 30 knots in isolated spots, mainly over the northern half
of the open waters.

Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected from late
Wednesday night through Thursday evening. A few storms moving
across the open waters Thursday afternoon and evening could become
strong to severe, with large hail and gusty winds being the
primary hazards.

Wind gusts will weaken Friday through the weekend. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms are possible across the lake during this
timeframe, though coverage will be less than on Thursday.
