Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New Orleans LA
1214 PM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 304 AM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

The heat will be dialed up a notch today. The actual temps will be
high enough as it is but now that the dew pt temps have also risen,
we will begin to feel the upper range of heat advisory criteria.
This could potentially be the hottest feeling day of the week but
that is still questionable. We will fall on the periphery of the
stacked ridge out west, so there will be some storms rotating down
into the area over the coming days. Some of these could develop deep
enough to become strong or even severe, but not widespread.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 304 AM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

Day to day storms will develop in different areas that the day
before but a front will try to make its way to the area with more
activity along it by the weekend. This could bring several storms
into the area mainly late Sat into Sat night. Again, some of these
could be strong or severe but at the moment severe storms are not
expected to be widespread. Some areas will get this much needed rain
while others will continue to bake. But the good thing will be some
of the mid and upper cloud cover could keep the heat down a few
degrees during the hottest part of each day. This will have to be
looked on a daily basis.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1212 PM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

High pressure and dry air will help keep all terminals VFR
throughout the forecast period. Isolated convection is possible
across the area later this afternoon around 22z, but with it
expected to be very isolated, confidence is not high enough to
mention in TAFs. Any convection that does form should dissipate
shortly after sunset this evening.

.MARINE...
Issued at 304 AM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

As sfc highs move in and out of the area, wind direction will be
around the compass through the week but will be rather light at 10kt
or less. Higher winds and seas will be in and around storms.
