  into next weekend.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Issued at 346 PM CDT Sun Jul 7 2024

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across
portions of north central Nebraska through this afternoon as a
shortwave trough tracks across southwest Nebraska. Cooler
temperatures combined with limited stability will limit widespread
severe potential. However a few stronger to briefly severe storms
are still possible that may result in some hail and briefly gusty
winds. Localized flooding will also be a concern again as heavy
rainfall falls on saturated ground. Any heavy rainfall should be
short lived and flooding should remain brief.

Lingering storms will begin to dissipate by early evening as diurnal
heating lessens towards sunset. Gradual clearing of skies will allow
overnight low temperatures to drop into the low to mid 50s. While
these temperatures won`t harm vegetation or crops, they are
nearly 5 to 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Issued at 346 PM CDT Sun Jul 7 2024

Upper level ridging across the western US will allow for surface
high pressure to build southward into the Great Plains on Monday
lasting through much of next week. Cooler air will continue to push
into the region keeping highs in the low to mid 80s on Monday, which
is slightly below normal (normal in the upper 80s). Temperatures
will gradually warm throughout the week, returning into the 90s by
next weekend, with some locations south of I-80 even hitting the
lower 100s. Heat headlines are not in effect at this time, but may
be necessary for next weekend as surface temperatures rise and
confidence in the warming trend increases.

While the majority of next week remains quiet, a few isolated
chances for rain showers and thunderstorms are possible during the
afternoon by late week across northern Nebraska. Confidence remains
too low at this time to put even a mention into the forecast, but
some models are hinting at these diurnally driven storms. Severe
storms are not anticipated, but this may change in the upcoming
days as we get a better handle on the boundary layer
environment.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z TUESDAY/...
Issued at 620 PM CDT Sun Jul 7 2024

Isolated showers continue this evening across the Sandhills and
north central Nebraska. This activity will remain out of the
vicinity of both terminals. Otherwise, expect VFR conditions to
prevail across western and north central Nebraska through the
period. West to northwest winds at 10kts or less will persist
through a bulk of the period before veering towards the
southeast around 00Z Tuesday.
