Issued at 1034 AM EDT Wed Jul 10 2024 KBYX is currently detecting only light sprinkles in the outer SE Gulf waters, which likely are not even making it to the surface. A Saharan airmass remains in place across the region, which was captured by this morning`s 12Z sounding. A very dry layer between 975-600 mb was sampled, which has squashed shower development across the region. A weak mid-level low near our area has helped with cloud development, and visible satellite is depicting partly to mostly cloudy skies for the island chain. This cloud cover is helping some (not much) with the heat, and will likely be the discerning factor of whether or not we reach Heat Advisory criteria later today. We currently do not have a Heat Advisory in effect, but we will continue to monitor this throughout the day. High pressure in the North Atlantic will be shoved eastward by a trough moving across the Eastern Seaboard. As this occurs, winds will continue to weaken and back to the northeast. Later this evening, some storms may be able to drift off the Mainland, but otherwise, it looks to remain mostly dry through tomorrow morning. No changes were made to the current forecast. && .MARINE... Issued at 1034 AM EDT Wed Jul 10 2024 There are no watches, warnings, or advisories in effect for the Florida Keys coastal waters. From synopsis, gentle east to southeast breezes will prevail across the Florida Keys coastal waters through the rest of the work week, as high pressure remains in place from the Atlantic across the Florida peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico. The high will strengthen over the western Atlantic this weekend, bringing moderate easterly breezes to the Keys waters Saturday through at least Sunday night. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 1034 AM EDT Wed Jul 10 2024 VFR conditions will prevail at both island terminals through the TAF period. Nil rain chances will continue, but later this evening some convection could come off mainland and move toward the terminals. Confidence in timing and likelihood is low, so will leave it out of the TAFs for the time being. Near surface winds will be east to southeast at 5 to 10 knots becoming mostly east later today. && .CLIMATE... On this day in 1965, the daily record rainfall of 2.27" was recorded in Key West.
