.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1100 PM EDT Thu Jul 11 2024

After what started as an active day quickly simmered down during
the afternoon and early evening. There are still some lingering
stratiform showers moving down from the Mainland and on occasion
over the island chain. This activities pales in comparison of what
moved through earlier. A TUTT just northeast of the Bahamas
continues to spin this evening as it slowly treks northwest
towards the Carolinas. Meanwhile, a mid level ridge is being
pinched between this feature and a deep trough across the Central
Plains. This is making for a steering flow more so dominated by
the mid level flow, hence why showers are moving north to south.

With that being said, rain chances will be minimum for the
overnight. Although moisture continues to gradually increase,
there is still a persistent layer of dry air in the mid levels
that is helping to evaporate much of the light precipitation that
is attempting to fall. It is possible this evaporation is adding
momentum to the winds as the coastal waters off the Upper Keys
remain much higher than the rest of our waters despite no
convection occurring. Winds should tend to relax as we go into
the overnight with winds generally remain east to southeast as a
low level ridge axis remains weakly defined north of the Keys.

Mainly light to gentle easterly breezes will prevail
across the Florida Keys coastal waters through the rest of the
work week, as high pressure remains in place from the Atlantic
across the Florida peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico. The high
will strengthen over the western Atlantic this weekend, bringing
moderate easterly breezes to the Keys waters Saturday through at
least Sunday night. Breezes will begin to slack on Monday.
