295 FXUS62 KKEY 060245 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1045 PM EDT Fri Jul 5 2024 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION... .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1030 PM EDT Fri Jul 5 2024 Currently - The combination of a weak ridge across the Florida Peninsula and a sloppy low northeast of the Bahamas has resulted in light breezes across the Keys. Day time heating has perturbed things further and winds are variable. Fairly sharp and small scale ridging is in place over the Florida region. This, along with the previously mentioned lows, have contributed to quite a dry profile in this evenings sounding with a precipitable water of only around 1.5 inches. While CAPE is plentiful, there is a sliver of lower level inhibition and CAPE really doesn`t pick up until around 800 mb. This along with the weak flow has resulted in only a few clusters of showers and thunderstorms emanating south and westward off of the mainland. Conditions are seasonably warm with temperatures in the mid 80s. Dew points remain disgustingly high in the upper 70s. Short Term Update - Atlantic ridging will remain across the Florida Peninsula while the low near the Bahamas shifts a bit further westward across the northern Bahamas. This along with a cooling mainland will nudge light breezes east to southeasterly. Forecast soundings suggest deep layered moisture will increase through the night. However, lower level instability and forcing will remain limited. As a result, slight chance pops remain warranted. Expect overnight lows in the lower to mid 80s with dew points remaining in the upper 70s. && .MARINE... Issued at 1030 PM EDT Fri Jul 5 2024 A ridge across Florida and a weak low northeast of the Bahamas has resulted in a weak pressure gradient across the Keys. In addition, day time heating has caused some variability across Keys waters. Expect winds to become a light prevailing east to southeasterly overnight as the mainland cools. Only minor adjustments made to the first period wind wording to include variability. Otherwise, no changes made. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 1030 PM EDT Fri Jul 5 2024 VFR conditions will prevail at the island terminals through the overnight period. Surface winds will be light and variable to start, becoming east to southeasterly. && .KEY WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... FL...None.
