226 FXUS62 KKEY 030232 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1032 PM EDT Tue Jul 2 2024 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION... .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1030 PM EDT Tue Jul 2 2024 Currently - Ridging dominates the local region through the depth of the troposphere. A surface through lower level ridging stretches westward from the Atlantic into Florida and along the gulf coast. As a result, surface winds are light out of the east. Meanwhile mid and upper level ridging is aligned over the southeastern United States. This evenings sounding indicated somewhat dry air through the lower levels along with limited low level inhibition. The overall setup is limiting convective potential across the area despite ample CAPE and a PWAT near 2 inches. Conditions are seasonable with temperatures in the mid 80s and dew points in the mid to upper 70s. Short Term Update - Ridging will continue to dominate the area through the overnight period. The surface ridge across Florida will maintain light east to southeasterly breezes through the night. With that said, Hurricane Beryl will continue to churn west northwestward towards the northwestern Caribbean Sea. This will contribute to a tightening pressure gradient and slowly freshening breezes beginning late tonight. Despite ample CAPE and moisture, the background ridging and low level inhibition will keep convective coverage at bay. Will maintain slight chance pops for the night. Overnight lows will struggle to sneak below the mid 80s, while dew points will remain in the mid to upper 70s. && .MARINE... Issued at 1030 PM EDT Tue Jul 2 2024 Ridging will remain across Florida. This will keep winds light out of the east to southeast through the overnight period. Hurricane Beryl will continue to move westward through the Caribbean Sea and will gradually tighten the pressure gradient across the Keys. Expect winds to begin trending upwards late tonight. No changes planned for the evening marine update. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 1012 PM EDT Tue Jul 2 2024 VFR conditions will prevail at the island terminals overnight.
