...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1988, afternoon and evening severe thunderstorms
invaded the Southern and Central High Plains.  The most
powerful severe thunderstorm struck Harrah Oklahoma,
located 25 miles southeast of Oklahoma City, where gusts
were measured at a nasty 92 mph.

In 1878, New England`s second deadliest tornado occurred
when it walloped Wallingford Connecticut where 34 people
were killed and 100 were injured.  The tornado started as
a waterspout over a river.  It was 400 to 600 feet wide
but was only 2 miles long.
