...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1979, an extremely violent 40-minute severe
thunderstorm clobbered Fort Collins Colorado with
baseball to grapefruit sized hail.  Around 2,000 homes
and 2,500 vehicles were severely damaged.  Of the 25
people injured, most were due to head injuries.  The most
tragic of all was that of a 3-month old infant.  The
monetary losses were not reported.

In 1988, the furnace was turned up full blast across the
North and Northeast United States where 12 cities set
record high temperatures for the date.Baltimore reached
a blistering 103 degrees which marked the 8th time the
city had been torched by 100 degree plus heat; a July
record.  The 101 degree high at Billings Montana marked
the 17th day that Billings had baked in 100 degree plus
heat which had set the annual record for Montana`s
largest city.
