...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1968, incredibly powerful severe thunderstorms struck
Huron, SD.  That afternoon and evening the severe
thunderstorms produced winds that that rip roared at an
astounding 115 mph and besieged the city with hail
reaching the size of softballs.  The wild winds blew down
a radio tower and unroofed many homes.The hideous hail
damaged many other homes where roof damage was extensive
and windows were smashed.  No damage estimate was
provided.

In 1936, the high in Wichita reached 102, the first of
20 consecutive days of high temperatures that reached 100
degrees or more.  This is the longest stretch of 100
degree plus heat in the Wichita climate history.
