443 FNUS54 KHUN 050934 FWFHUN Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama National Weather Service Huntsville AL 434 AM CDT Fri Jul 5 2024 .DISCUSSION... A warm/moist airmass remains in place across northern AL this morning, to the southeast of a slow-moving cold front. A broad region of prefrontal showers and thunderstorms will likely spread southeastward across the region later this morning, bringing wetting rainfall to most locations. Additional thunderstorms may redevelop along the actual cold front as it pushes southeastward this afternoon and evening, but coverage is a bit more uncertain. A slightly drier airmass will spread southeastward through the TN Valley in the wake of the front on Saturday, with afternoon temperatures in the lower 90s supporting MinRH values in the 35-45% range. Smoke dispersion will be fair today due to transport winds of 5-10 MPH and mixing heights of 3500-4000 ft, but conditions will improve to generally good on Saturday. In the extended period, we expect the frontal boundary to retreat northward on Sunday afternoon/evening, bringing a warm/moist airmass to the region once again early next week. This will result in daily chances for showers and thunderstorms (most numerous during the afternoon/evening hours). Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy haze and fog will be possible for much of the region early this morning, due in part to lingering smoke from fireworks yesterday evening. A lower coverage of fog will be possible (mainly in valleys and near large water sources) Saturday and Sunday mornings. Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
