Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
239 PM CDT Thu Jul 11 2024

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM...

.NEAR TERM...
(Tonight)
Issued at 239 PM CDT Thu Jul 11 2024

The story remains pretty similar to the past few days. High pressure
remains firmly in control of the weather pattern across the region.
With regards to our weather tonight, this means that skies should
remain mostly clear, with temperatures dropping down to seasonally
cool readings. When you add the slightly lower dewpoints, it will
actually make for a pleasant July night. Winds should also be light
and variable as well.

.SHORT TERM...
(Friday through Sunday)
Issued at 239 PM CDT Thu Jul 11 2024

Hot conditions will continue Friday and over the weekend, as high
pressure at the surface and aloft controls the general weather
situation. After seasonably mild conditions tonight, high
temperatures to close out the workweek Friday should warm into the
mid 90s. Heat index values should rise into the mid/upper 90s. A
bit warmer on Saturday with highs into the upper 90s, and heat
index values to 103 degrees in a few spots. The heat continues on
Sunday with high temps soaring to 101, and heat indices to 106 in
a few spots. Heat Advisories could be needed Sun if this hot trend
continues. Dry conditions should continue in this period.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Wednesday)
Issued at 349 AM CDT Thu Jul 11 202

[239 PM update] It will become even hotter as we start a new work
week, with highs both Monday and Tuesday soaring to the 102 in a
few spots. Heat indices will become more of an issue, with more of
the area in the Advisory range (105-109). A few spots in the
grids showed 111 degree heat heat index values which is in the
Excessive Heat realm. Low temperatures only in the low/mid 70s
(73-77) will add to the dangers of hot spell early next week. The
environment not cooling sufficiently before another hot day can
become accumulative, with more instances of those outdoors
suffering from heat related illnesses. Please drink plenty of
water, try to stay in the shade, and reducing outdoor activities
will help in keep heat related health issues minimized.

Less cloud cover seems like a good bet early next week, as a weak
boundary caught up in the high building over the area sinks southeast
of the area. This could allow daytime highs to reach the century
mark then. Also, with a frontal boundary to our south moving
northward, more low level moisture should move into the area. This
may bring some isolated showers or thunderstorms to northern
Alabama during that period into the middle of next week.

However, the biggest impact will be the heat next week. With the
air temperatures climbing into the upper 90s to around 101 degrees
possibly early next week and higher dewpoints moving into the area in
the afternoon, Heat Advisories or Excessive Heat Warnings may be
needed early next week into the middle of next week. Especially
given most guidance is forecasting lows next week in the 73 to 77
degree range next week.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1232 PM CDT Thu Jul 11 2024

A broad area of high pressure situated west of the region, will
result in a light northerly flow over the Tennessee Valley.
Daytime heating and available moisture should result in few to
scattered fair weather cumulus this afternoon. These clouds should
fade as we go into the evening, with generally clear skies
tonight. A development of fog late tonight cannot be totally ruled
out; however confidence remains too low for addition in the TAF.
Light NE winds are forecast Fri morning, with a few fair weather
cumulus forming a few hours after daybreak.
