913 FXUS63 KGID 202009 AFDGID Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hastings NE 309 PM CDT Sat Jul 20 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - 20% chance for scattered, non-severe showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening across the area. - 50% chance for patchy fog development along and northeast of the Tri-cities early Sunday morning. Some areas may see periods of dense fog. - Cooler, unseasonal temperatures through Tuesday with scattered shower and thunderstorm potential. Warming and drying out for second half of the work week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 308 PM CDT Sat Jul 20 2024 This evening into Sunday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms have begun to develop across the region this afternoon. In central Nebraska, as of 2:30 PM the area of showers extends from north of St. Paul, NE northeast towards Norfolk. This activity and other scattered/isolated shower thunderstorm development will persist through the remainder of the afternoon and evening hours. Most of this will be diurnally driven, supported aloft with a weak lobe of vorticity rotating around the primary upper low to our east. Due to the diurnal nature, expect overall coverage to decrease into the late evening hours as the sun sets, although because there is some upper support, some showers and thunderstorms could linger. These are expected to be non- severe. Fog as we saw this morning is again possible Sunday morning. The axis for the best chance for fog is from the tri-cities to the northeast towards Columbus, NE. At this time, not expecting widespread dense fog, but some areas may drop to dense (1/4 mile) at times. This should lift as mixing begins around 9-10 AM Sunday. Temperatures through Tuesday will be slightly below normal with highs in the 70s to low 80s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. Scattered off and on shower and thunderstorm activity is also possible, with around a 20% chance. Organized activity is not expected. Wednesday through Saturday: Upper level ridging begins to build in from mid-week on. This will result in dry conditions and temperatures warming. Temps will steadily warm each day into the 80s and eventually the low 90s for the weekend. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 1233 PM CDT Sat Jul 20 2024 For KGRI/KEAR Airports: Conditions have improved at both terminals from LIFR to IFR and now MVFR. MVFR ceilings will persist into the afternoon hours, slowly improving to VFR later today/evening. Fog, reduced visibilities and low ceilings causing IFR or lower (LIFR) conditions are possible again tonight at both terminals. There is a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, mainly driven by surface heating causing it to diminish as the sun sets this evening. These could impact a terminal, but will not be organized and will likely be added in an amendment. Showers and thunderstorms are not expected to be prevailing, but temporary. Winds will be light and variable through much of the area, where they do have some directional component, they will be light and north to northeast. && .GID WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NE...None.
