...New 00Z Aviation Discussion...

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Thursday)
Issued at 232 PM EDT Wed Jul 10 2024

A cold front has made it into the southern portion of the County
Warning Area (CWA) this afternoon. Shower and thunderstorm activity
has pushed S of the area, although an isolated shower is possible in
the extreme SE through the remainder of the afternoon hours. A thin
layer of moisture at around 800 mb is responsible for a rather thick
cumulus and stratocumulus field across the NW portion of the area.
The thickest of these clouds presently extend from the NE mountains
to near Rome. These clouds will continue to progress SE and gradually
thin. However, there may be a period late this afternoon and/or
early this evening when the Atlanta metro area goes mostly cloudy.

Otherwise, more comfortable temperatures and dew points have
filtered into the area. Early afternoon temperatures range from the
mid 70s in the NE mountains to the lower 90s in the SE. Dewpoints
range from the lower 60s in the NE to the lower 70s in the SE.

Low temperatures tonight are forecast to range from near 60 in the
NE mountains to the lower 70s in the extreme SE...a welcome change
from the temperatures of late. Mostly dry weather is expected area-
wide for Thu. There is an outside chance of an isolated shower in the
NE mountains Thu afternoon. High temperatures will range from the
mid 80s in the NE mountains to the mid 90s from Columbus to Macon and
Athens and points SE. With the dry air expected to mix to the
surface Thu afternoon, heat indices are not expected to be an issue,
even in the hottest areas. Unfortunately, winds will be lighter on
Thu. /SEC

.LONG TERM...
(Friday morning through next Tuesday)
Issued at 232 PM EDT Wed Jul 10 2024

Highlights

 - Rain and thunder chances largely remain confined to the eastern
and southeastern portions of the forecast area through Saturday

 - Afternoon isolated to widely scattered rain and thunder chances
   expected next week

 - Gradually warming temperatures are expected over the next 7 days

Not too much to report as far as the long term forecast is
concerned. The only notable change was the inclusion of an area of
interest off the South Caroline Coast denoted on the latest NHC
Tropical Weather Outlook. A weak low pressure center associated with
an unorganized area of showers and storms was noted off the southeast
Atlantic Coast and has a 10% chance of development over the next 7
days. Latest guidance has this area remaining somewhat disorganized
but riding the coastline Friday into Saturday. Thus any precipitation
chances at the start of the long term remain confined to the far
eastern/southeastern fringes of the forecast area -- mainly across
the Carolinas. Nevertheless, something to continue monitoring!

Mid to upper level ridging will build across the western CONUS and
eventually creep back into portions of the Southeast. This will
result in a warming trend through the period and a return to somewhat
of a summertime like pattern. With isolated to widely scattered
convection during the afternoon and forecast high temperatures in the
mid to upper 90s.
