280 FXUS62 KFFC 122327 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 727 PM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 ...New 00Z Aviation Discussion... .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Saturday) Issued at 244 PM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 On the western periphery of the Bermuda High, a low pressure centered near the South Atlantic coast is bringing tropical moisture into far eastern Georgia. As a result, isolated thunderstorms will be possible in the far southeastern portion of the forecast area in the late afternoon hours today. Elsewhere across the forecast area, benign weather conditions are expected to persist within the relatively dry airmass. Hot conditions are expected this afternoon and through the weekend as the gradual warming trend continues. Apart from the higher elevations of far northeast Georgia, high temperatures will be in the mid 90s in north Georgia and upper 90s in central Georgia this afternoon. Low temperatures on Saturday morning will be in the 60s in far northeast Georgia, and low 70s across the rest of the forecast area. Highs will be a couple of degrees warmer across the area on Saturday, and could approach 100 in portions of central Georgia in the peak heating hours. As moisture continues to spread slowly westward, chances for isolated to scattered thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon will extend a slightly further into the area than today. With dewpoints remaining in the 60s, heat index values are expected to remain below Heat Advisory thresholds through the period. Winds will be light and variable today and Saturday. King && .LONG TERM... (Sunday morning through next Thursday) Issued at 244 PM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 No major changes to the extended forecast periods...continued HOT. High pressure builds off the coast this weekend and we get stuck in weak zonal flow well into next week. Chances for any meaningful precip will likely not show up until a cold front pushes in Wednesday night and into Thursday of next week. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the weekend and into early next week will be limited to areas of central and south GA and even there, it appears it will be isolated at best. Dewpoints will be in the 70s south of Columbus to Macon, but given mid level dynamics and no significant forcing at the surface there won`t be much to work with as far as lift goes. To drive the point home: Hot. Expect Heat Indices to be in the triple digits for most of the CWA with the exception of the mountains until the middle of next week. Overnight lows will be in the mid 70s which won`t provide much relief and will result in an early start to the heat. Vaughn/01 && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 722 PM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 VFR conditions (FEW-BKN AOA 5000 ft AGL and unrestricted visibility) will continue in northern and central Georgia through at least 06Z Sunday. Winds will remain light (6 kt or less) in the region, with northeast (010-070 degrees) winds favored between 12Z and 17Z Saturday, then west (250-340 degrees) favored winds after 17Z. //ATL Confidence...00Z Update... Moderate overall confidence in the KATL TAF. High confidence in the ceiling, visibility and precipitation forecasts. High confidence in the wind speed outlook, but low confidence in wind direction forecast. Albright && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
