...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Monday night)
Issued at 209 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024

Key Message:

- Moderate to major heat risk continues today and tomorrow

South Texas over the short term will be characterized by warm
temperatures and partly cloudy conditions as we continue to be
under the influence of high pressure aloft. Chances for
showers/thunderstorms northeast increase to around 15-20% as
an approaching weak inverted trough combines with moisture (PWAT`s
1.8-2.0 inches) to influence the weather pattern during the first
part of the work week.

Afternoon temperatures today and tomorrow will rise to the mid to
upper 90s across much of the region with slightly cooler
conditions along the coast due to onshore winds. Heat indices are
expected to range from around 105 across the region to 110 degrees
briefly along the Coastal Bend and some inland locations. Heat
Advisory conditions are not expected to be met as the higher heat
index values are not expected to persist long enough but will
continue to monitor conditions. Regardless, please continue to
practice heat safety and stay cool as a moderate to major heat
risk continues this week.

Lows will continue to range in the mid to upper 70s under partly
cloudy skies and light southeasterly winds. Conditions will remain
humid with dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s with a low 10%
chance for patchy fog along areas across the Victoria
Crossroads/Coastal Plains with calm winds and clear skies.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through next Saturday)
Issued at 209 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024

Key Messages:

- Low to medium chances for showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday

- Moderate to major risk of heat-related impacts through the week

Tuesday will feature our best chance for showers and thunderstorms
as the inverted trough continues to move westward with plenty of
moisture in the area. Low chances for showers and thunderstorms will
linger into Wednesday as the seabreeze moves inland across the
Victoria Crossroads where PWAT values are expected to range between
2.1-2.3". Other than that, dry conditions are expected as an upper
level ridge holds firm.

Slightly above normal temperatures are expected across the region
with enough moisture to result in dangerous heat index values. Max
heat indices are expected to range from 105-115 degrees daily with
a medium to high (60-70%) chance for heat indices to surpass 110
degrees and medium (35-45%) chance to climb above 115 degrees.
Therefore, the long term will feature a moderate to major risk of
heat-related impacts daily.

Please continue to practice heat safety. Stay hydrated, take
frequent breaks from the sun, avoid strenuous outdoor activities,
wear loose and lightweight clothing, recognize the signs of heat
stroke and heat exhaustion, and ALWAYS check your vehicle before
locking it. Remember your pets too by bringing them inside and
providing plenty of water and shelter. Additionally, check local
media and government websites for cooling center locations and
hours.

Issued at 639 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through most of the period.

visibilities. This should again be very brief and should
dissipate by 13Z yielding VFR conditions there after.

.MARINE...
Issued at 209 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024

There`s a low to medium 20-45% chance for showers and
thunderstorms over the waters Monday and Tuesday in response to
an upper level disturbance. Overall, a weak to moderate
southeasterly wind is expected throughout this week with wave
heights around 2-3 feet. Then, slim (less than 10%) chances for
showers the remainder of the week.
