450 FXUS61 KCAR 191950 AFDCAR Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Caribou ME 350 PM EDT Fri Jul 19 2024 .SYNOPSIS... High pressure will remain over the area through tonight. A cold front will approach on Saturday and cross the area Saturday night into Sunday. High pressure will build across the region Monday. A frontal boundary will stall across the region Tuesday into Wednesday. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/... High pressure will keep the weather calm and pleasant overnight and through tomorrow. Afternoon fair weather cumulus is anticipated to dissipate this evening as surface temperatures cool and the boundary layer stabilizes. Winds will also decrease overnight, limiting any mixing. Similar conditions expected tomorrow with sunny skies, possible afternoon cumulus, and an afternoon breeze. Highs will be slightly warmer tomorrow, in the low 80s. && .SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/... A cold front will reach northern Maine early Saturday night, moving toward the Downeast coast late. Expect a chance of showers/thunderstorms across northern areas early Saturday night. A weakening area of showers will then move south across the forecast area overnight with the cold front. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies north Saturday night. Across Downeast areas, expect mostly clear skies early then partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers late. The cold front slowly moves offshore across the Gulf of Maine Sunday. Could still have a slight chance of showers across Downeast areas with the exiting front Sunday. Otherwise, expect partly/mostly sunny skies across the forecast area Sunday. High pressure builds across the region Sunday night/Monday with mostly clear skies. Near normal, to slightly below normal, level temperatures are expected Sunday/Monday. && .LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... High pressure persists Monday night with partly cloudy skies. A slow moving, or stalling, frontal boundary will reach the region Tuesday. Uncertainty then exists Wednesday through Friday regarding the location of the front. Also, low pressure possibly moves along the front Wednesday. Moisture also increases along the frontal boundary with precipitable water values increasing back to 1.50 to 1.75 inches. Expect unsettled conditions Tuesday into Friday along with a daily chance of showers/thunderstorms. However, the coverage of showers/thunderstorms is also uncertain. Due to the uncertainty, will generally include just shower chances, with only a slight chance of thunderstorms. Expect near normal level temperatures Tuesday through Friday. && .AVIATION /20Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... NEAR TERM: VFR conditions expected to continue overnight and through the day tomorrow. Afternoon diurnal breezes will gust up to 20 kts both days, mainly from the W - NW, but overnight winds will be calm.
