A backdoor cold front will push south through the districts late tonight into the early part of the day shifting westerly winds to the east/northeast across the eastern plains. The cooler air is relatively shallow and so areas closer to the mountains may not see more than a shift to northwest winds. And some areas may see a mix of westerly winds again in the afternoon due to mixing. Easterly flow may become more prevalent by this evening after the sun sets. We will see isolated to scattered high based showers and thunderstorms again over the mountains and nearby foothills late today into the evening. Wind gusts over 40 mph are possible locally near showers. Temperatures will not be quite as hot the next couple of days with somewhat higher afternoon humidity as well. High pressure will build up again over the region at mid week pushing highs up to the 90s to near 100 over the plains. Expect isolated to scattered thunderstorms over and near the SW mountains at times through the week, but the chance of wetting rain (0.10 inch) will remain below 10% on the plains and range from just 10-20% over the mountains. Wind fields do not appear strong either, so despite the hot and dry weather, critical fire weather conditions may be limited.
