.DISCUSSION...

Through Tuesday night...

Today and tomorrow will feature high pressure dropping down from
the north ans sliding to our east. Persistent easterly winds will
act to advect in cooler air lowering temperatures into the high
80s to low 90s Monday and Tuesday. Easterly winds will also advect
in some moisture with higher dewpoints combining with lower
temperatures leading to higher RH values. MinRH values will range
from the high teens to low 30s today increasing into the low 20s
to mid 30s for tomorrow bringing much needed relief for ongoing
fires.

Monsoon moisture will make its way into the region this afternoon
and evening bringing a 20-40% chance of precipitation along the
Montana/Wyoming border. Early Tuesday a wave moving through to
our northeast will bring a 20% chance for showers and
thunderstorms from Miles City down to Ridgeway. Storms are not
expected to be severe. Smoke due to wildfires is expected
to bring some haze across parts of the region over the next few
days. Torgerson

Wednesday through Sunday...

Models remain consistent that a strong ridge will dominate the
weather pattern for the extended period. Some monsoonal moisture
under the ridge may produce some isolated to scattered
showers/thundershowers over the western mountains...but the chance
of measurable rainfall at the lower elevations looks pretty bleak
for most locations over the plains through the period (<10%).
Despite the above normal temperatures and dry conditions...wind
fields do not look to strong so critical fire weather concerns may
be limited. Look for highs generally 95-100 degrees and lows
ranging from near 60 in the foothills to mid 60s on the plains.
The hottest day may be Thursday when Billings has a 45% chance of
reaching 100 degrees with nearby river valleys showing a 50-60%
chance. BT

.AVIATION...

Starting around 21z today lasting through the evening there will
be showers and thunderstorms along the Montana/Wyoming border.
These storms are not expected to be severe but could bring
erratic winds and visibility obstructions of higher terrain. Haze
due to wildfire smoke could cause slant wise visibility reductions
with a greater risk for KBIL,KSHR, and KLVM. Torgerson
