316 WWUS81 KBUF 171826 SPSBUF Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Buffalo NY 226 PM EDT Sat Aug 17 2024 NYZ019-085-171915- Chautauqua NY-Southern Erie NY- 226 PM EDT Sat Aug 17 2024 ...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT SOUTHWESTERN ERIE AND NORTHEASTERN CHAUTAUQUA COUNTIES THROUGH 315 PM EDT... At 225 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Silver Creek, or 10 miles northeast of Dunkirk, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Lackawanna, Hamburg, Evans, Boston, Eden, Silver Creek, Angola, North Collins, Derby, Evangola State Park, Angola on the Lake, North Boston, Forestville, Farnham, and Langford. This includes Interstate 90 between exits 57 and 58. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. If on or near eastern Lake Erie, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now!
