FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING. .DISCUSSION...The Red Flag Warning represents an upgrade from the previously issued Fire Weather Watch for wind/low RH in the Western Twin Falls BLM and Southern Highlands BLM Saturday afternoon and evening. A new Fire Weather Watch has been issued for wind/low RH in the Burns BLM and Vale BLM, also for Saturday afternoon and evening. In these zones RH will easily meet dryness criteria, but sustained northwest wind speeds near 20 mph will only marginally meet wind criteria. As for the heat, with the upper level ridge staying just off the coast, Saturday looks 1 to 4 degrees warmer than today and Sunday 1 to 3 degrees cooler (due to stronger northwesterly flow aloft). But then the ridge will shift inland and Monday looks 5 degrees hotter than Sunday, and Tuesday another 3 to 7 degrees hotter, with Wednesday and Thursday the hottest of all as the ridge axis passes through the Great Basin. High temps Wednesday and Thursday will be generally within 3 degrees of all-time highs. Only slight cooling (2-4 degrees) is foreseen Friday through Saturday. After the ridge axis shifts inland, southwest flow aloft will draw high-level monsoon moisture northward through California beginning Tuesday, and reach eastern Oregon as early as Wednesday night, with high-based thunderstorms possible Thursday, and then into western Idaho Friday.
