Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Birmingham AL
655 AM CDT Sat Aug 10 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 341 AM CDT SAT AUG 10 2024

This AM, a stationary surface front is stretched from the SE LA
coast NEWD to just SE of DHN and NEWD to near CLT. Some minimal
meandering of the boundary may occur during the short term.
However, as far as C AL is concerned, it will generally be
stalled just SE of Pike/Barbour with ridging behind the boundary
across much of ERN Conus. C AL should remain rain free through the
short term. If any area would get a stray isolated shower it
would be across the far SE counties if the boundary does drifted
further NWD than anticipated. However, chances are too low to have
mentioned pops ATTM. Look for lower dew points to continue to
creep SEWD now through the remainder of the weekend. Temperatures
will remain warm during the short term for highs (mid/upper 80s
far N to mid/upper 90s far S), but with the lower dew points
trickling in, heat indices should remain below that which would
require heat advisories. We should also have nice recovery during
the overnight hours with lows ranging from the lower 60s N to
lower 70s

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 341 AM CDT SAT AUG 10 2024

Relatively cool temperatures are expected for Sunday night as
light northerly winds maintain a low PWAT airmass. Most locations
will see lows in the mid to upper 60s. Temperatures in the low to
mid 90s on Monday afternoon won`t feel too terrible with dewpoints
in the mid 60s. Higher moisture content lurking to the west will
begin to advect eastward on Tuesday as a deep-layer ridge builds
in from the west. Accordingly, temperatures and dewpoints will
trend upward. Models disagree somewhat on the position of ridge
Wednesday through Friday, but there appears to be a decent
potential for MCS activity during that period.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 652 AM CDT SAT AUG 10 2024

VFR conditions are expected for the next 24 hours. Ridging will
be dominant through the forecast resulting in minimal cloud cover
and unrestricted vsbys. Winds will pick up shortly with daytime
mixing from N-NW at ~ 5-8kt. For tonight with subsidence, look for
winds to become light/variable to near calm once again.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Drier air will remain in place over Central Alabama for the next
several days, keeping conditions mostly rain free through early
next week. Minimum RH values Saturday through Monday will drop
into the 35 to 45 percent range each afternoon. 20 foot winds
will be from the north to northwest between 5 and 10mph through
Monday.
