.Heavy rain will move back into the region through the next 24hrs
and will cause rivers especially the Taiya River to go above minor
flood stage by Wednesday afternoon from the rainfall runoff and
snow/ice melt. Water levels are expected to be below flood stage by
Friday morning.

...FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM AKDT THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall
  continues.

* WHERE...The Taiya River near areas along Low Lying portions of the
  Chilkoot Trail.

* WHEN...Until 1000 AM AKDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
  River or stream flows are elevated. Significant runoff may cause
  flooding of creeks and rivers.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 330 AM AKDT, satellite estimates indicate heavy rain will
    move across the advisory area on Wednesday. Rapid river rises
    will cause minor flooding of small streams, especially near
    the Taiya River. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches are
    possible through Wednesday.

  - For Taiya River near Skagway:
    At 3:00am the stage was 15.7 feet.
    Flood Stage is 16.5 feet.
    Forecast: A crest around 17.4 feet is expected around 4:00pm
    Wednesday.
    Water levels will go above minor flood stage Wednesday
    morning.
    Water levels will go below minor flood stage around 8:00am
    Thursday.

    Impacts:
    At 16.0 feet: Portions of the Chilkoot Trail begins to
    inundate with water.

    At 16.5 feet: Portions of the first few miles of the Chilkoot
    Trail will begin to inundate with water to ankle depth.

    At 17.0 feet: The National Park Service advises against
    boating and other recreational water-based activities on the
    Taiya River. Trail orientation and navigation begins to
    become difficult and may hinder route-finding for several
    hundred feet. Water will be knee deep or higher in places
    along the lower portions of the trail.

    At 17.5 feet: The National Park Service may close the
    Chilkoot Trail due to flooding impacts associated with high
    water along the lower portions of the trail.
