849 FNUS55 KABQ 070957 FWFABQ Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 357 AM MDT Sun Jul 7 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT TODAY BETWEEN 1 PM AND 7 PM FOR THE NORTHWEST PLATEAU DUE TO VERY LOW HUMIDITY, STRONG WINDS AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .DISCUSSION... Hot, dry and windy conditions are expected today. Critical fire weather conditions will develop this afternoon across the Northwest Plateau where gusty northwest winds will combine with 5-10 hours of single digit relative humidity values and high haines. Elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions are expected elsewhere across western and central New Mexico. A strong backdoor front will press south and westward tonight. This front will bring shower and thunderstorms to northeast and east central New Mexico, strong easterly winds to the Rio Grande Valley and will replenish moisture across western New Mexico. This will set the stage for daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms this week, with the greatest coverage expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
