Elevated fire weather concerns in the Valley and adjacent foothills through early next week due to very hot and dry conditions. Slow downward trend in high temperatures next week, but temperatures will remain hot. && Key Points - Long-duration, dangerous heat event through early next week, impacting outdoor events. - Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for the Valley, Delta and foothills through 11 PM Tuesday. - Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Sierra, southern Cascades, and Burney Basin until 11 PM Tuesday. .Discussion... Strong high pressure moves overhead today with many areas likely to see their hottest temperatures of the week along with a continuation of very dry conditions. Daily records, and even some all-time record high temperatures, will be in jeopardy as highs climb above 110 degrees across most of the Central Valley, and the northern half of the Sacramento Valley will once again see highs in the 115 to 120 degree range with a chance that Redding reaches 120 for the first time in their recorded history. Redding`s record for today is 111 from 2007, and Sacramento`s is only 105 from 1989. The extreme heat will moderate a bit beginning Sunday as the ridge axis slowly shifts east into the Great Basin through early next week allowing a little marine influence to gradually return. Elevated fire weather conditions will continue over much of the area into early next week as the hot and very dry weather persists. && .EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Wednesday THROUGH Saturday)... Upper high over the Great Basin Wednesday slowly shifts east through the remainder of the week into Saturday as weak upper troughing increases along the CA coast. This will result in a gradual trend down in high temperatures through the extended period. Marine layer is expected to slowly deepen bringing some cooling influences through the Delta into the S Sac Valley. NBM showing high temperatures at or above 105 midweek in the Central Valley, hottest in the N Sac Valley with KRDD/KRBL at 110. By Saturday, most areas in the Central Valley progged below 105, minus the N Sac Valley, with mid to upper 90s for the Delta and portions of the S Sac Valley. && .AVIATION...
