Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX
1230 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Sunday)
Issued at 224 PM CDT Sat Jul 13 2024

Isolated to widely scattered showers and a few thunderstorms have
developed across southern sections this afternoon. This activity
will be diurnally driven and will affect areas generally south of
a San Angelo to Brownwood line into the early evening hours before
dissipating. Skies will be mostly clear tonight, although some
low clouds should develop over southern sections towards daybreak
and linger through mid morning. Dry conditions are expected
tomorrow, along with slightly warmer temperatures as the ridge
west of us expands east a bit. Lows tonight will be in the low to
mid 70s, with highs tomorrow ranging from the mid 90s across
southern sections, to the upper 90s to around 100 degrees
elsewhere.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through next Saturday)
Issued at 108 PM CDT Sat Jul 13 2024

Drier and warmer conditions return Monday into Wednesday. A weak
upper trough, however, will continue over eastern and southern
Texas, so can not exclude one or two showers or thunderstorms into
Wednesday, but the potential will be low, and for the most part,
not be included in the forecast. Main concern Monday into
Wednesday may be a return to 100 degree temperatures over the Big
Country and Concho Valley, as a surface trough brings gusty
southwest winds at times.

A better chance of showers and thunderstorms returns late
Wednesday night into Friday as a weak cold front pushes into the
region and stalls out. Rain/cloud cover should bring highs back
down into the lower to mid 90s. Could see a few areas of locally
heavy rainfall as the atmosphere becomes more more tropical- like.
Gusty winds and dangerous lightning, though, will be the main
concerns.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1230 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

Currently, all sites are generally VFR, with only some upper level
clouds moving across the area. Low clouds can be seen in satellite
imagery developing to the south and southeast, and these are
expected to move north into the area affecting at least KSOA and
KJCT in the next few hours, and may also reach as far north as
KBBD, so have kept a mention of MVFR CIGs at these through sites
later this morning through sunrise. These clouds will scatter out
of the area by 14Z or 15Z, leaving FEW to SCT upper level clouds
through the rest of the day and evening hours. Winds will be out
of the south/southeast with a few gusts between 15 and 20 knots
from mid morning through the early evening hours.
