Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX
608 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

The upper level ridge is currently centered over southern
Colorado and northern New Mexico early this morning. This ridge
will remain in place, and possibly even slightly expand somewhat
to the southeast. This will keep rain chances out of the forecast
for our area today, and warm temperatures a 2-3 degrees across the
area. We could see a few morning low clouds mainly south of
Interstate 20, but these should scatter out by mid to late
morning. Otherwise, expect a few upper level clouds, highs in the
mid 90s to around 100 degrees, and southerly winds 5 to 15 mph.
Tonight, south/southeast winds will diminish to 5 to 10 mph, with
lows mainly in the low to mid 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

Temperatures will continue to increase for the first half of the
work week as the 850 mb thermal ridge pushes further east into our
area. Highs on Monday and Tuesday could approach 104 in some
areas, with the warmest temperatures in the Concho Valley and Big
Country. Precipitation chances will remain low during this time
period, as the upper level ridge continues to sit to our west.

Moisture will be on the rise for the second half of the work week,
with PWAT values in the 1.5 to 2 inch range on Thursday. With this
increase in moisture, we`ll see increased cloud cover and the
potential for heavy rainfall with any storms that develop. A cold
front is forecast to push through the area on Thursday. Rain
chances will increase along and behind the front. Moisture will
remain high post frontal passage, leaving the potential for
showers and thunderstorms for Friday through the weekend. We`ll
also see slightly cooler temperatures starting Thursday, with
highs mainly in the low to mid 90s.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 607 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

Satellite imagery shows low clouds attempting to move north into
our area, but they are scattered, and the moisture layer is fairly
thin, so MVFR ceilings are somewhat scattered. Will keep the
mention of 1500 to 2500 foot ceilings in at KSOA, KJCT, and KBBD
through 14Z or 15Z. After that, still expect just a few upper
level clouds across the area along with south/southwest winds
around 10 knots, with gusts between 15 and 20 knots. Winds will
diminish to 5 to 10 knots around 00Z tonight, remaining there
through Monday morning. VFR conditions should persist from mid
morning today through early Monday morning.
