476 FXUS64 KSJT 141814 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 114 PM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 ...New LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 The upper level ridge is currently centered over southern Colorado and northern New Mexico early this morning. This ridge will remain in place, and possibly even slightly expand somewhat to the southeast. This will keep rain chances out of the forecast for our area today, and warm temperatures a 2-3 degrees across the area. We could see a few morning low clouds mainly south of Interstate 20, but these should scatter out by mid to late morning. Otherwise, expect a few upper level clouds, highs in the mid 90s to around 100 degrees, and southerly winds 5 to 15 mph. Tonight, south/southeast winds will diminish to 5 to 10 mph, with lows mainly in the low to mid 70s. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through next Sunday) Issued at 101 PM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 Very warm temperatures will continue Tuesday and Wednesday, as a lee trough brings south to south winds, and allows highs in the 97 to 103 degree range. The warmest readings will be in the Concho Valley and Big Country. Temperatures should be just below heat advisory criteria of 105 degrees. Upper ridging over the Southwest United States will build northward the second half of the week, bringing West Central Texas under an upper trough, and giving the region a chance of showers and thunderstorms. A weak cold front may also move in Thursday bringing in some low level lift and help with storm development. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1235 PM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 VFR conditions expected the next 24 hours. South winds will gust near 20 knots this afternoon but will diminish by early evening. Expect light winds overnight, with south winds becoming breezy again after 15Z tomorrow. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
