Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwest Arkansas...
Northwest Louisiana...East Texas...and Extreme Southeast Oklahoma
National Weather Service Shreveport LA
256 PM CDT Sat Jul 6 2024

.DISCUSSION...
Slightly drier air has backdoored southwest to area along and north of
the I-20 corridor of Northeast Texas and North Louisiana this afternoon,
in wake of a weak surface frontal passage which has since slipped south
to near Interstate 10 in Southeast Texas and South Louisiana. Isolated
showers can not be ruled out late this afternoon south of I-20, but most
areas will remain dry. However, the surface boundary is expected to lift
back north and wash out Sunday, although isolated to widely scattered
showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible Sunday afternoon mainly
over East Texas and North Louisiana. Min RH`s Sunday will be higher than
what has been observed today, ranging from 45-55%, with southeast 20ft winds
5-10 mph. Afterwards, a very wet and unsettled period is expected Monday
through much of this coming week, as what should be Hurricane Beryl comes
ashore the Middle Texas coast Monday morning, before shifting north-northeast
into Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas through Wednesday. The threat
for locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding will exist late Monday night
through Wednesday as the remnants move through, with rainfall amounts of
4-6+ inches possible near and just east of the center over much of East Texas,
extreme Southeast Oklahoma, and Southwest Arkansas. Amounts of 2-4+ inches
are possible across North Louisiana, with additional scattered showers and
thunderstorms possible Thursday through Saturday as a weak upper level
disturbance lingers over the area in wake of Beryl`s departure. Temperatures
should remain below normal through at least midweek before a warming trend
commences for the latter half of the new work week.
