At 730 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable
of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were
located along a line extending from 7 nm west of Eastchester Bay to
near The Verrazano Narrows Bridge to Keansburg, moving east at 20
knots.
Locations impacted include...
Raritan Bay, Upper New York Harbor, Rockaway Inlet, Sandy Hook Bay,
The Verrazano Narrows Bridge, Lower New York Harbor, and Jamaica Bay.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher
waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek
safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.
Lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water
stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
