.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 248 AM CDT Mon Jul 8 2024

The passage of a cold front brought a round of strong to severe
storms yesterday afternoon and evening, in addition to some
heavy rainfall. By early Sunday night, lingering showers and
storms had moved east of the forecast area, into central Iowa.

High pressure will gradually build over the western CONUS this week,
as a jet streak draws warmer air into the Central Plains.
Temperatures will rise into the low 80s today, and gradually push
into the 90s by the end of the week. Sunday looks to be the
hottest day of the forecast period, with heat indices reaching
100-105. We`ll need to continue to keep a close eye on the
weekend for potential heat products, as we move further into the
week.

Moisture lingering in the region could help spur a few pulsey,
afternoon showers and thunderstorms throughout the week. The best
chance for precipitation will arrive Wednesday, as a shortwave
drops through the region. Otherwise, the lack of any significant
forcing mechanism will likely keep any showers or storms very
isolated and relatively weak.
