071 FNUS54 KMAF 071915 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 215 PM CDT Sun Jul 7 2024 .DISCUSSION... Min RH below critical over the Southeast New Mexico plains, above normal temperatures, and gusty 20ft winds lead to elevated fire weather conditions today from the Sacramento Foothills into northern Eddy and Lea Counties. However, winds will still not be that strong for this time of year and RFTIs will remain low, limiting fire risk. A stray storm is possible over the Davis Mountains today with fire starts from lightning and gusty, erratic winds possible. An increased chance of storms is forecast on Monday and Tuesday as a cold front pushes through. Storm chances decrease thereafter and become more confined to western higher terrain, with fire risk remaining low otherwise due to light winds, min RH above critical, and good overnight recovery. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
