The National Weather Service in North Platte has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  East central Cherry County in north central Nebraska...

* Until 430 PM CDT.

* At 351 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles west of
  Merritt Reservoir, or 29 miles southwest of Valentine, moving east
  at 25 mph.

  HAZARD...Two inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail
           damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect
           wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
  Valentine National Wildlife Refuge, Merritt Reservoir, Steer Creek
  Campground, Big Alkali Lake State Wildlife Management Area,
  Schlagel Creek State Wildlife Management Area, and Highway 83
  crossing Goose Creek.

This includes the following highways...
 Highway 97 between mile markers 104 and 129.
 Highway 83 between mile markers 178 and 206.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement
agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service
office in North Platte.
