.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1100 AM EDT Wed Jul 3 2024
GOES-16 satellite imagery highlights a busy synoptic picture for
local Florida Keys meteorologists. The northward displacement of
Major Hurricane Beryl, headed towards the southern Jamaican
coastline, is being stinted by a formidable mid-level ridge,
centered over the Southeast United States. The 12z sounding at KEY
highlights one of the first true (albeit modest) Saharan Air
Layer (SAL) events occurring closer to home in the Florida Keys.
The net result is locally mostly sunny skies, with only isolated
shallow showers for the Florida Keys, and temperatures quickly
approaching to near 90F.

For the rest of today, general meteorological reasoning suggests
most locations should remain mostly sunny to partly cloudy, with
only a few locations experiencing a brief, isolated shower. With
that said, we need to monitor the evolution of Beryl, which
continues to slowly weaken on its approach to Jamaica.
Occasionally, these weakening systems can launch an outer squall
on its periphery. Based on current trends, no changes necessary to
the inherited short-term forecast.

.MARINE...
Issued at 1100 AM EDT Wed Jul 3 2024
There are no watches, warnings, or advisories currently in effect
for the coastal waters of the Florida Keys. From synopsis, high
pressure over the western North Atlantic will maintain gentle to
moderate easterly breezes. Hurricane Beryl is well south of the
Florida Keys, and this will remain the case, but breezes will
briefly freshen through tonight as Beryl makes its closest
approach to the coastal waters. As Beryl approaches the Bay of
Campeche and the high shifts in the North Atlantic, gentle breezes
will veer to the southeast over the weekend.

.AVIATION...
(15Z TAFS)
Issued at 1100 AM EDT Wed Jul 3 2024
VFR and easterly breezes will prevail at the EYW and MTH terminals
through the afternoon. By 18-21Z, easterly winds will start to gust
to near 20 knots. Chances for any direct impacts from possible
showers remains low at this time.
