451 FNUS54 KHUN 021948 FWFHUN Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama National Weather Service Huntsville AL 248 PM CDT Tue Jul 2 2024 .DISCUSSION... A moderately strong SSE flow regime will persist across northern AL for the remainder of the day and overnight, providing periods of low stratus clouds. However, as morning clouds erode tomorrow, a few showers and thunderstorms may develop across mainly the southwestern portion of the forecast area. Low probabilities for convection will continue north of the TN River on Wednesday night, with a greater spatial coverage of afternoon thunderstorms expected on Thursday. Overall probabilities for wetting rain in the short term period will be rather low, and excessive heat concerns will return, with a Heat Advisory in effect beginning at 1 PM CDT Wednesday. Smoke dispersion will be in the generally good range, with mixing heights of 5000-6000 ft and transport winds of 5-10 MPH. In the extended period, chances for wetting rain will increase substantially on Friday/Friday night, with a fairly widespread coverage of showers and storms anticipated ahead of an approaching cold front. Although the front may drift south of the area on Saturday night-Sunday, it will return northward early next week bringing a return to mainly afternoon convection on Monday/Tuesday. Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy fog will be possible on Thursday and Friday mornings (primarily in locations that experience wetting rainfall). Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
