Today and tonight...

A big upper trough is over most of the central part of the country.
An upper ridge is over the West Coast and Hurricane Beryl is about
to make landfall on the Texas coast. Winds are light and variable
across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas
with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Winds will remain light and
shift towards the northwest and north this afternoon. Temperatures
today are expected to warm up into the 80s across the area. Winds
will be light and mostly variable tonight with lows in the mid 50s
to mid 60s.

Tuesday through Thursday night...

The upper trough will move slightly eastward and the ridge to the
west will also move eastward on Tuesday. South central and central
Nebraska and north central Kansas will be on the backside of the
upper trough. Winds will remain light on Tuesday with sunny skies.
Temperatures will be on a warming trend with highs on Tuesday around
a couple of degrees warmer than the previous day. Light winds will
continue into Tuesday night with lows ranging from the upper 50s to
mid 60s. Showers and storms may develop (15% to 20% chance) just to
the east of the forecast area on Wednesday. Otherwise, temperatures
will continue to gradually warm with highs on Wednesday in the mid
80s to mid 90s with mostly sunny skies and light winds. Low
temperatures Wednesday night will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
The upper trough will move east of the area on Thursday with the
upper ridge to the west gaining more influence. Winds on Thursday
will be a little stronger than previous days out of the southeast.
Sunny skies will be present on Thursday with highs a couple of
degrees warmer than the previous day. Overnight lows will continue
to get warmer as well with lows Thursday night in the 60s.

Friday through Sunday night...

The upper ridge to the west will impact the area more heading into
Friday and the weekend. Winds Friday through Sunday will generally
be out of the south each afternoon with mostly sunny to sunny skies.
High temperatures Friday will range from the upper 80s to slightly
over 100 degrees. Temperatures will continue to warm each day with
highs on Sunday expected to range from the mid 90s to around 105
degrees. Heat index values on Friday may reach or slightly exceed

of far southern Nebraska. Widespread heat index values of 100 to 105
degrees are expected on Saturday across north central Kansas with
portions of south central Nebraska experiencing heat index values of
100 to 103 degrees. Heat index values of around 100 to 105 degrees
