KEY MESSAGES: 1)Scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening may produce brief downpours and gusty and shifting winds. 2) Upper ridging is expected to set up next week leading to hot and dry weather conditions. At this point, Thursday appears to offer the chance for near excessive heat with highs in the mid 90s to low 100s and overnight lows in the 60s. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Scattered thunderstorms will continue this afternoon and evening with brief heavy downpours and gusty and shifting winds. Storms will diminish in coverage this evening and winds will become light out of the northwest. Upper ridging will begin to set up in the western CONUS and extend eastward next week. Large scale subsidence will lead to drier weather conditions across the region as temperatures trend warmer and eventually hotter. At this time, Thursday has the potential to be near excessively hot with high temperatures in the mid 90s to low 100s and overnight lows in the 60s. While this period remains several days out, heat products may need to be considered in the coming days if trends continue and confidence increases. Given the recent pattern of near to below normal temperatures, impacts from the coming heat may be exacerbated. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Confidence is low on the exact timing and placement of individual thunderstorms this evening, but high that active weather in general looks to continue for a few more hours. Confidence is also high that upper riding will yield dry weather and a warming trend next week. Conditions will be monitored for the potential for heat related products in the coming days. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions will prevail, but brief MVFR ceilings and as low as IFR visibility are possible if a steady shower or thunderstorm tracks over a terminal. Storms may produce gusty and shifting winds. Expect northwest winds overall between 5 and 8 kts after 04z this evening. && .GGW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ weather.gov/glasgow
