Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
404 AM CDT Mon Jul 8 2024

Today:

Skies were mostly cloudy over eastern Iowa early this morning with
scattered showers and a few storms lingering from the evening. It was
clear to partly cloudy over central and western portions of the state
with a few patches of fog. Temperatures heading toward daybreak were
fairly similar to what they have been the past few days with readings
from the upper 50s northwest to upper 60s southeast. Winds were
generally variable at speeds less than 10 mph, outside of near
showers and storms.

Partly sunny conditions are expected later this morning with much of
the precipitation ending. Temperatures across Iowa should be in the
lower to middle 70s approaching noontime. Slight chances for a shower
or storm will return north and east by afternoon however, with highs
in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Tonight and beyond:

It should be dry across the state by tonight however with sky
conditions ranging from mostly clear northwest to mostly cloudy
southeast. Similar cloud conditions are expected Tuesday, but there
will be a slight chance for afternoon showers and storms over northern
Iowa and adjacent parts of Minnesota during the afternoon, with other
chances across Missouri and Illinois due to the remnants of Hurricane
Beryl. Another system will drop into the Missouri Valley Wednesday
bring additional chances for showers and storms to the Midwest
Wednesday.

The outlook for the remainder of the week calls for only spotty
chances for precipitation, and the main story turning to increasing
heat and humidity. Highs should be in the middle 80s to middle 90s to
end the week with peak heat indices well into the 90s from Iowa south
and west.
