Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
343 AM CDT Sun Jul 7 2024

Today:

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms continued to drift across
portions of southern and eastern Iowa early this morning where skies
were mostly cloudy. Farther northwest it was dry with mostly clear
skies. Temperatures heading toward daybreak varied from the upper 50s
or lower 60s northwest to around 70 degrees south. Winds were
generally south at 5 to 10 mph, but a bit stronger and more variable
near showers and storms.

These trends should continue through the morning for the most part
with continued chances for showers and a few storms south and east but
dry conditions and some sunshine northwest. Temperatures should be in
the 70s in most locations by late morning. Clouds and the chances for
showers and storms will expand over much of the state by afternoon
however, with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Tonight and beyond:

The chances for showers and storms will linger across much of Iowa and
states to the south and east this evening. A few strong storms with
wind and small hail are possible. Lows across the Midwest tonight
should vary from the upper 50s northwest to upper 60s southeast.
Chances for showers and a few storms will linger across the
Mississippi Valley Monday as well, with highs in the upper 70s to
lower 80s.

The outlook for later in the week calls for only spotty chances for
showers and storms with seasonal heat and humidity. Highs should
mainly be in the 80s.
